For many years now scientists globally have been continually searching for answers to diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's and cardiovascular disease to name just a few as well as an aid to weight loss and anti aging. Well could a partial answer have been found within the substance known simply as resveratrol?

Ever since Dr. David Sinclair of Harvard laboratory tested the substance on mice and concluded positive results the product has been in the limelight. When Sinclair tested the substance on mice; all of the mice were fed on a high fat diet for a period of 12 weeks, the mice were then separated into two groups and one group received a large dose of resveratrol. It was these mice that then went on to run twice as far on a treadmill, gained less weight and lived on average 20% longer than the mice that didn't receive the substance. Since these tests human benefits from the substance have been looked into and the results have been astounding.

The substance known simply as resveratrol represents a natural drug that is a type of plant antibiotic, otherwise known as phytoalexin, which is produced when plants come under attack from bacteria or fungi. Although the roots were discovered in 1940, it wasn't until 1992 that it was associated with positive effects of cancer reduction and cardiovascular health commonly associated with red wine. Now in our day and age the substance is produced by several plants and is sold as a nutritional supplement. It is mainly found within the skin of red grapes and as a result it is a key element within red wine, which is why in France where the production and consumption of red wine is higher then the US or UK etc have relatively low cases of coronary heart disease despite their intake of saturated fats.

Resveratrol
has been connected with being able to fight three major types of disease that currently highly impact us, as I have previously mentioned these diseases include cancer, Alzheimer's and cardiovascular disease. The connection between resveratrol and these diseases has been made thanks to a growing amount of research that has been conducted this research has concluded that thanks to the biochemical activities that take place within this substance it can be used as a treatment for a wide range of human health problems. Basically it has been discovered that the substance may be able to slow down the aging process, which will be able to increase the body's natural defenses against disease.

As I have previously mentioned resveratrol is highly present in red wine and studies have shown that as long as red wine is consumed in moderation it can cut death rates by up to 40% per year. One of the main reasons for this comes down to the fact resveratrol is present within the wine. However in a lot of cases red wine alone will not provide you with the amount of resveratrol that is needed to provide you with health benefits such as the above. This is why the substance is available within tables and capsules etc. The amount of resveratrol within these products is extremely high when compared to red wine so if you are looking to benefit from the health benefits of it I would recommend such products as oppose to simply drinking red wine.

If you are thinking of taking resveratrol just ensure that you stay within the recommended dose and remember it is a substance that will work to its maximum potential if you take the steps to an overall healthier lifestyle so make the necessary changes now and you will soon start to see a major difference to your overall health, weight and well being.

About the Author

Resveratrol is a very powerful anti aging supplement. While there is still more research that needs to be done with resveratrol, the supplement is showing much promise.
